It all began in 1966. 

Dan and Joan Hauserman, now in their 80s, decided to build the Cobblestone Mall and start a new real estate company all in the same year.  Hauserman Real Estate was formed, and soon thereafter grew to a medium-sized real estate firm and one of the only real estate companies around in those days.   Dan and Joan knew from the start they wanted to handle vacation rentals in addition to sales, figuring people who rent may want to buy and vice versa.  Joan once commented, “Other brokers back then thought we were nuts handling rentals and wondered why we wouldn’t  just sell.”

Over time more agents joined the firm and each was required to handle both rentals and sales.  Russ Baruh, one of the current owners of Hauserman Rental Group joined the company in 1975 and Dan Hauserman Jr., the other owner, joined in 1977.

In 1982 Hauserman Real Estate affiliated with Coldwell Banker and the office became Coldwell Banker Hauserman Real Estate.   The company continued to grow and in 1986 Dan Jr.  and his brother Tim, along with Russ purchased the company from Dan and Joan.  Dan Jr. ran the sales staff and Russ ran the rental staff.     It was about this time that the rental operation was split from sales and moved upstairs.  Then, in 2001, Coldwell Banker decided to expand their company-owned operations into the Tahoe area and the sales division was sold.   Dan and Russ kept the rental division, Hauserman Rental Group, while both still sell for Coldwell Banker. 

Hauserman Rental Group is continuing to grow and is now one of the largest rental companies on the North Shore.  For over 40 years the Hauserman name has been synonymous with vacation rentals and real estate sales in Tahoe City.
