Calling all hikers, bikers, and cross-country skiers… this is the one for you! The location doesn’t get any better. The backyard of Trailside Escape opens up to the meadows of the Tahoe City Nordic Center. Adventure is literally at your doorstep!

The home itself is an ideal blend of form and function. Enter on the lower level which contains all 3 of the bedrooms. Two bedrooms, one with a Queen and one with a Twin plus a set of Twin bunk beds, share a guest bathroom in the hall. The ample King master bedroom has a TV, walk-in closet, en-suite bathroom complete with jetted tub and separate shower, and sliding glass door leading to the backyard.

Upstairs, enjoy the open great room with kitchen, dining area (table seats 8), and living room with large sofa, wood burning fireplace and half bathroom. French doors lead to a cozy and well-equipped family room, featuring game table, wet bar, flat screen TV, and gas fireplace. For larger groups (maximum total occupancy is 9), the family room also offers a plush Queen sofa bed and a full bathroom.

Just off of the upstairs living area, a spacious deck with gas grill (SUMMER ONLY) and table for outdoor dining overlooks the tranquil meadow behind the house. On the lower level, a luxurious hot tub awaits. Ping Pong table for guest use as well

The community known as The Highlands sits just two miles east of downtown Tahoe City. This quiet residential neighborhood offers a serene setting and beautiful meadow views, but is just a five minute drive from the many dining, shopping and recreation options in Tahoe City.

Skylandia State Park and Beach is only a mile from the base of the Highlands neighborhood. The sandy beach features a pier and swimming area. While the beach itself is not pet-friendly, dogs are welcome in the park area. Skylandia Park provides barbeques and picnic areas, hiking and biking trails, and gorgeous lake views.

During ski season, it’s just 15-20 minutes to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, two of the premier Tahoe ski areas. A single lift ticket provides access to both resorts, and the Squaw/Alpine Express offers between-mountain transportation every 20-30 minutes. Five other amazing North Tahoe ski areas are also nearby.

Must be at least 25 years old to rent.

Prior approval is required to bring more than one dog to any dog-friendly property. All dogs must be at least one year old and must not be left unattended at the property unless crate trained. No pets other than dogs are allowed at any of our pet-friendly properties (no cats, birds, ferrets, etc.).

*PLEASE NOTE: If you are bringing a dog to our dog friendly property there is an additional fee of $100+tax.

Our properties do not have air conditioning.

Please note that this property has a noise devise that monitors excessively loud noises per county compliance.

BBQs are not provided during winter months (November to Memorial Day)

We particularly liked the spacious upstairs rooms. We had fun playing games in the recreation room. The view from the deck was pretty looking over the forest and the hiking trail. Loved the hot tub.

We had a fantastic week in Tahoe while staying at Trailside Escape. This home met all of our needs with one exception. The sleeping accommodations are better for a smaller group, including young kids, but not great for our group that included young adults in their 20's. The room with the twin beds is super small and the sleeper sofa is off the kitchen so there's no privacy. We also felt that the beds could be made a bit more comfortable.

But everything else about this home is fantastic and I would highly recommend it for the right groups!

We had friends come in from out of town for a ski trip. The place was a great size and very accommodating. Hot tub was nice and it was a short drive to town and the mountain. It was enjoyable watching the cross country skiers from the back porch as well. It’s tucked away on a nice quiet court. Will definitely be back. One thing I recommend in the future is having more than 1 key for the house.

We traveled to Trailside Escape In June 2022. We had 4 adults and 2 children. The property was the perfect size for us and in a great location. We loved sitting on the back deck and watching people hike and mountain bike through the meadow. The house itself is outdated but mostly clean and decently maintained. The games in the family room were a hit with my kids, plus the TVs had DirectTV, Smart TV and a DVD player. The house gets a musky smell when closed up but with doors and windows open, is lovely.

We reported some minor maintenance/cleaning/supply issues to the rental company and they said they would resolve (light bulb replacement, spiderwebs on ceiling, slimy hot tub, dirty carpets, lack of typical spices, etc.). The rental company was easy to deal with and check in/check out were a breeze.

Overall, the house could use a bit of updating, but it was comfortable, spacious, and everything worked as described. My youngest cried for about an hour when we left because he wanted to “go back to the cabin!” Needless to say, we may be returning next summer. And you can’t beat the location if you like to hike!

We had an amazing weekend in this spacious home. We absolutely loved the yard as it was perfect for our dogs and kiddos. It was a chilly weekend, so we got to utilize the fireplace. We do wish that it had a fresh sponge there, or a washcloth to wipe things down. We would have also like to have paper towels. It was clean and a quite little getaway. Thank you!

An incredible property in an amazing location. It has so much living space which made it super relaxing to hang out in cook or get cozy and watch movies. The view of the cross country slope was delightful. It lets in a ton of sun and it's fun to watch skiers go by. It's a perfect Tahoe getaway.

This is our second time at Trailside Escape, and will be looking for our third booking soon enough. What we love about this place: Big, open family spaces, (almost fully) fenced yard, dog-friendly, close to Tahoe City, backs out onto ski/bike/hike trails out the gate, is bright and airy and well equipped. Cannot recommend this space enough!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Trailside Escape. It’s big, open, bright with tons of room for everyone, including our dog. A short drive to Tahoe City, and a 7-11 close by for the teenagers to walk and get a snack. Kitchen was well stocked with stainless steel pots and pans, tons of dishes, utensils, etc. Super comfy family room. Easy access to Tahoe XC trails right out the backyard, which was amazing. Highly recommend!

It’s a lovely, huge property that easily for our family. And it’s dog friendly which was fantastic. Easy access out the backyard onto the Tahoe XC trails. House was really clean, all amenities as expected. Kitchen was well equipped. There are a number of battery powered lights around the house, all of them were dead (batteries). Location was great, works love to come back in the summer for easy mountain biking on the trails.

Lovely property! Without a/c and only two small fans it did get quite warm as there are no blinds on the windows facing the sun during the day. That’s the only thing that wasn’t absolutely perfect . The home is amazing and the second living room was a perfect “man cave” for the husband to escape to.
