Summer in Tahoe

Yes, it’s time once again for one of the premier exhibitions of classic and wooden boats in the United States, The Tahoe Yacht Club’s Concours d’Elegance. On August 8th and 9th, 2014 you can be part of this annual gathering of some of the most beautiful boats still afloat, with about 70 craft competing to win a variety of prestigious awards. This year the show has moved from Sierra Boat Company in Carnelian Bay to Obexer’s Marina in the heart of Homewood.

Obexer’s is a fitting place for the spectacle since current owner Sarah Obexer-Fields great grandfather Jake Obexer created the first wooden boat dealership in Lake Tahoe when he started Obexer’s in 1911. To give you an idea how long ago that was, the boats would arrive at the lake by train.

Travel and parking along the west shore in the Homewood-Tahoma area could be a challenge on August 8th and 9th. Please plan accordingly. If you are close enough to walk or ride your bike to the event, by all means do so. Or take TART, the public transit system. Another alternative is the North Tahoe Water Shuttle, which runs seven times a day with stops in Carnelian Bay, Tahoe City, West Shore Cafe and Obexer’s. View more information here or call (530) 581-8707. What could be finer then arriving at a boat show via boat?

Boat Show Hours:
Friday August 8th between 10 and 4:30 pm, with an awards presentation at 6 pm.
Saturday, August 9th, between 9 and 4:30 pm, with a Roar off, at 4 pm. The Roar Off is when many of the boats leave the harbor at the same time.

An extensive calendar of social events  are set for between August 7-11th.  For details on all of the events or to purchase tickets go to www.laketahoeconcours.com.
