When is the best time to visit Lake Tahoe?
Lake Tahoe weather is great almost any time of year. Summer highs are warm, but not too hot. Winter lows can be chilly, but nothing unbearable like many ski towns! Our great weather in Lake Tahoe makes it a perfect ski destination as well as a top lake vacation destination. Where is there to eat in Lake Tahoe & Tahoe City?

Can you fly to Lake Tahoe?
While Lake Tahoe does have its own regional airport, most visitors fly into the larger Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Once you land, Lake Tahoe is just a 45-minute drive away! There are many shuttles that travel between the RNO airport and Tahoe if you prefer not to rent a car. Visit our Map & Directions page for more information.
Can you fish in Lake Tahoe?
Other than the lake, Lake Tahoe is home to many streams, rivers, and smaller bodies of water that are all excellent for fishing. Many varieties of trout can be found in these waters such as rainbow, brook, brown, golden, and the mackinaw, which can be up to 20 pounds or even larger. Cast your line from the shore or hire a boat charter for the big catch in the deeper parts of the lake.
Can you swim in Lake Tahoe?
Abosolutely! While the crystal blue water can be quite chilly, it is a must-do! If you are looking for a warmer area to swim, try to find a shallow bay or sloped shoreline. Sand Harbor and Pope beach are a few of our favorite North Lake Tahoe spots for swimming.
Can you drive around Lake Tahoe?
Yes! Most of the shoreline is public and is filled with beaches, parks and sights galore. The scenic drive around Lake Tahoe is 72 miles long and takes about three hours.
Which part of Lake Tahoe is best?
We may be biased, but we think that the North Lake Tahoe and West Lake Tahoe areas are best! Use our visitor’s guide to learn about everything there is to do.
How should I pack for my Lake Tahoe California vacation?
Depending on the time of year you are visiting, you will want to bring the appropriate clothing. In winter, heavy winter coats, sweaters and layers are recommended. If you plan on participating in snow sports, you will also want snow pants, ski or snowboard gear, gloves goggles, hats, etc. In Spring, Summer and Fall, layers, layers, layers. While daytime temperatures can be warm, it can get quite chilly once the sun goes down! Be sure to check our weather page for seasonal temperatures when packing.
Tahoe Vacation Rental FAQs
When is check-in?
Pick up your Lake Tahoe vacation rental keys at our office in Tahoe City. Check-in time is 4:00 PM. Our office is open 7 days a week, 9 am to 5pm. If you arrive early, feel free to take a walk on the beach, or shop around town, knowing your rental home is being thoroughly cleaned and inspected as you wait. Please take a moment to notify us of any damages or problems immediately, so we may have a chance to correct them (whether you caused it or not).
If you arrive after business hours, we will automatically put your personalized Welcome Packet with the keys to your rental unit into a black metal box located to the right of our staircase that leads upstairs to the rental office. Be sure to bring your map to the rental unit that you can print from the web site.
When is check-out?
Check out time is 11:00 AM. Please leave any used beds unmade, take out the garbage and leave all dishes clean. Other procedures are found in your welcome packet. Please return your keys to our rental office upon vacating the rental unit. A late check-out fee of $50/hour could result if you do not vacate the unit and return your keys to our office on time. DO NOT put the ashes from the fireplace in the garbage can or paper bags! LEAVE THE ASHES in the fireplace; the cleaning staff will dispose of them appropriately! Thank you.
Will we have access to the clubhouse or pool?
When renting a home with private HOA amenities, access keys or cards are either issued with your welcome packet or are kept at the property. You are responsible for the key or access card once you check in. Please contact us immediately if you did not receive the key or access card, or if it is not at the property. A fee of $100 will be assessed if the key or access card is not returned to where it was issued.
What does my rental come with?
All of our rental properties have a fully equipped kitchen, television, blankets & pillows, linens, sheets and bath towels (though you may want to bring extras), and most have telephone, dishwasher and washer/dryer. Most have supplies like flour, sugar, salt & spices, but these are not required items (and many do not provide because of bears). We start you off with two rolls of toilet paper per bathroom & 1 roll of paper towels. Additional supplies can be purchased at the local supermarkets. Firewood is NOT supplied during the summer months (Memorial Day through October), and BBQs ARE NOT PROVIDED during winter months (Thanksgiving through Easter). Please bring your own charcoal, but propane/gas BBQs will have propane during summer months.
Are pets allowed?
If you are planning a trip to North Lake Tahoe, and you don’t want to leave behind your four-legged furry family member… we understand completely! We at Hauserman Rental Group love our dogs too, thats why we have a huge selection of Lake Tahoe dog friendly vacation rentals available for you to choose from. In fact nearly 1/3 of our inventory is available as dog friendly.

Is there parking?
During winter, snow removal from the driveway is provided automatically. Check the property information sheet before you confirm your unit to be sure there is ample parking for your group. Be sure you know the laws in regards to winter parking. Do not park in the street from Nov 1 – May 1! Your car will get towed! Driving conditions may be hazardous as well. Be prepared. We suggest you read our WINTER DISCLOSURE to help you prepare for travel in the Sierras.
Do you provide travel insurance or damage protection?
Your vacation investment is protected when you purchase CSA Travel Insurance, for your Lake Tahoe travel plans. This covers you for trip cancellation, delay, and/or interruption. We highly recommend that you purchase this protection to safeguard against the unexpected.
We also provide damage protection for our rentals. The Damage Protection Fee covers unintentional damages to the Vacation Rental Unit that occur during your stay, provided they are disclosed to the rental agency (Hauserman Rental Group) prior to or upon check-out. The Damage Protection Plan can be purchased up to, and including at, check-in.
What is your cancellation policy?
If we are able to re-rent the unit for the same dates at the same rate, we will refund all money less a $100 cancellation fee. For other situations, please visit this page for our full cancellation policy.
