Winter in Tahoe

While we wait for the snow that we dearly need to bury us in white, here are a few ways to enjoy our beautiful little town of Tahoe City:

Head down to the Fanny: Check out the Truckee River Dam and the low water behind Fanny Bridge, visit the North Tahoe Visitor Center, ponder the baskets at the Gatekeeper’s Museum, or enjoy a sit on a bench looking out towards the lake. All within fifty yards.

Hit the shore: You can walk the pathway between Fanny Bridge and the Tahoe Gal, or head out onto the newly expansive Commons Beach. Once you reach the shore, head south and walk where the Truckee River should be and keep on walking. Between Tahoe Tavern and Tavern Shores you will find a quiet little bit of public land to enjoy the view in solitude.

Stroll through downtown: Tahoe City has an eclectic mix of interesting shops and restaurants to explore. You will find art, clothing, gifts, mountain furnishings, sporting gear and goods, and just about everything else you might need, with a Tahoe twist. How about a massage or spa treatment? And just about every place you walk into will be a small family owned business which creates jobs and gives back to our little town. Find businesses to visit via the Tahoe City Downtown Association website visittahoecity.org

Sweat indoors: While many of us would rather be getting our endorphin fix by sliding over the white stuff, you could also do your sweating indoors at one of our gyms or yoga studios. Check out the classes every day at The Yoga Room in Tahoe City, or go to A Sante Fitness.

See a movie. The new Tahoe Art Haus and Cinema serves beer on tap, multi-flavored popcorn and lots of other tasty treats. They show first run movies, as well as an eclectic selection of indie films, and live dance performances. It has a relaxed fun atmosphere that makes it not only a good place to see a movie, but make friends. Get the schedule at tahoearthauscinema.com.

Take a hike. The Tahoe Rim Trail goes right through town. Until the heavy snows arrive, you can head north on the TRT off Fairway Drive and walk for miles with just a few patches of snow. Glimpses of the lake are seen right away, but a truly inspiring view of Tahoe is found in a mile, and if you keep walking, the views never disappoint.

Enjoy!
