Tahoe XC
Tahoe XC is an excellent destination to visit if you’re unsure where to take your dog. That’s because there is a wonderful variety of trails to explore. You will find flat trails, as well as uphill and downhill hikes, in an array of lengths. Most of the trails connect to another trail so that you can chart your course depending on your and your dog’s stamina.
Skylandia State Park and Beach
Skylandia State Park and Beach is a great place with plenty of room to roam and numerous ways to cool off. Take your dog to one of the dog-friendly beaches and ensure they are leashed as well. It’s a great way for your pup to cool off and refresh before venturing out into the 24 acres of California State Park land. The park has multiple hiking trails and picnic areas as well.
Hiking Trails in Tahoe City
Tahoe City has an amazing selection of dog-friendly hiking trails. These trails are among the most beautiful in the area. The Dollar Creek Shared Use Trail is a paved trail that stretches just over four miles in length. Page Meadows to TRT is approximately three miles long and offers some great views of marshes and lakes. The Rawhide to Paige Loop is another standout Tahoe City trail, a seven-mile loop that features some off-leash areas.
Carnelian West Beach
If you want to take your dog to the beach, then Carnelian West Beach is one of the best that allows leashed dogs. Be sure to clean up after your dog and have a fun time watching your pup splash in the water.
Donner Lake Rim Trail
The Donner Lake Rim Trail aims to be a long, looped trail that totals 23 miles in length. At the moment, just more than 12 miles are completed and are open to the public and leashed dogs. Even in its incomplete state, it offers stunning scenes along Donner Lake, Mount Rose, and the Pacific Crest.
Future plans aim to connect with existing trails like the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), Warren Lake Trail, Summit Lake Trail, and the Hole-in-the-Ground Trail. Keep your eye on this trail for return trips to the Lake Tahoe area.
