Where Can You Hike In Lake Tahoe In Winter?

It’s a popular question because there are so many options for avid and casual hikers visiting North Lake Tahoe. However, several stand out as exceptional winter hiking trails around Lake Tahoe.

  • Eagle Rock: This short (less than 1 mile) out-and-back hike offers unique rock formations at the top. This is a great opportunity to see volcanic rock formations.

  • Stateline Fire Lookout: One of the best views of Lake Tahoe is found on the Stateline Fire Lookout trail. It’s about 2 miles long and offers wonderful views of Crystal Bay and the north shoreline.

  • Picnic Rock: For those who are looking for a fun, family-friendly hike, Picnic Rock is a good choice. Overall, it’s about three miles long, out-and-back. There are some excellent views of Lake Tahoe from the top, but the journey to get there will give you some stunning forest sights.

  • Burton Creek Loop: Burton Creek State Park is a great place in North Lake Tahoe that’s stunning year-round. It’s a winter wonderland, covered in snow. It’s best enjoyed along the Burton Creek State Park Road, the Purple Trail, and the Burton Creek Loop. In all, it covers almost four miles.
