Winter in Tahoe

There is nothing quite like the Lake Tahoe après-ski scene to round out your all-day mountain experience. Warm your body on a sun-drenched deck with lake views or grab a drink in a cozy fireside lounge where you can regale your friends about your best runs. The après ski in Lake Tahoe is just as much fun as the ski runs.

You can easily go from the slopes to several après ski spots and then back to your picture-perfect ski cabin rental property courtesy of Hauserman Rental Group. We service the North and West Shore of Lake Tahoe, plus Alpine Meadows and Olympic Valley. You won’t be far from an ideal après ski spot when you stay with us.

An Overview of the Après Ski Scene In Lake Tahoe

Before you leave the slopes, it pays to know where to go and what to do following your full day of skiing. Here are the best après-ski activities to do when you visit Lake Tahoe.

Palisades Tahoe

Palisades Tahoe is an all-around great place with something for every skier—young or seasoned. There are some standout places for families, dining, and, of course, an ice-cold drink. Here is how to spend your time off the slopes at Palisades Tahoe.

  • Le Chamois: It’s hard to miss Le Chamois because it's right at the base and packed with people mingling around. This establishment is best enjoyed with a group of friends and a few pitchers of beer. It’s also a popular hangout for skiing icons like Jonny Moseley.

  • The Slot Bar: Looking for something lowkey? Try The Slot Bar. It’s a straightforward “hole-in-the-wall” kind of place with cheap beer and affordable cocktails for you to wind down your day.

  • PlumpJack Cafe: For dinner, this is the best place for a fine-dining experience. It offers a rustic vibe, seasonal menus, and a wonderful selection of wines.

Homewood Mountain Resort

Homewood Mountain Resort is perfect for those who want fewer crowds with plenty of runs. It’s a smaller location, but the plus is that you won’t find many lines for the lifts and the après ski scene.

  • Madden Cafe: Day or night, Madden Cafe is there for you. They serve excellent coffee throughout the day and don’t skimp on their donuts and other small-plate meals.

  • Big Blue View Bar: One of the best views off the slopes is at Big Blue View Bar. Stand in awe of the sweeping view of Lake Tahoe below you, and you can also enjoy live music when the DJ arrives every Saturday.

  • 89 Bar & Grill: Some of the juiciest smash burgers are served right here. 89 Bar & Grill is your classic ski pub serving a variety of burgers, beer, and plenty of appetizers.

Northstar California Resort

Northstar offers a welcoming, unique nightlife, making its après-ski options ideal for families as well as groups of friends. It’s worth visiting simply for the 2:00 pm tōst to the mountain.

  • Tōst: One of the more unique traditions in Lake Tahoe is found at a small stand on the mountain called Tōst. It’s here where you can order a glass of champagne, sparkling wine, or apple cider, and at 2:00 pm everyone tōsts to the mountain. It’s first-come, first-served, so try to get in line by 1:30 pm, but if you’re late, no worries, because the view is still spectacular.

  • Rubicon Pizza Company: Pizza is something basically everyone can agree on after a full day of skiing. Rubicon Pizza Company crafts classic Italian pizzas and unique creations like its mighty Big Mountain pizza. There is also a delicious menu filled with appetizers and desserts.

  • Petra Restaurant & Wine Bar: For wine enthusiasts, there is one standout in Lake Tahoe, and that’s Petra Restaurant & Wine Bar at Northstar. There is a seasonal menu of appetizers and entrees, but the locally sourced wine is the big draw. Enjoy the wine, classy atmosphere, and the outdoor fire pit.
