Tucked away in the back of the Henrikson Building in downtown Tahoe City (255 North Lake Blvd.) sits The Burrito Window. It’s an unassuming little place with a few picnic tables outside, and a table or two inside overlooking the Tahoe City Golf Course. The menu is simple: Burritos and Tacos. That’s it, that’s all. But that’s enough. It’s very popular because it perfectly meets a niche needed in every town: Inexpensive, delicious and quick. How quick? Make your order and watch the burrito folding expert whip that baby into shape in about one minute.

The burritos and taco plates are all under $7.00. The burritos come with your meat of choice and beans, rice, salsa, jack cheese and chipotle sour cream. It must be that sour cream sauce that gives the burritos a tasty, but not too spicy, tang that will bring you back for more. The taco condiments include salsa, cabbage, onion, chipotle sour cream and cilantro. And there you have it. Except for chips and salsa, that’s the grand total of the menu. And that is all you need.

The Burrito Window is an offshoot of the D’Lish Catering company, which keeps busy on the weekends catering weddings and other events. They also do corporate retreats, desserts, and private chef services.

The Burrito Window is a great meeting place for locals. It’s a grab and eat spot where you will find a steady stream of local contractors, bike riders and any one else who is hungry, but doesn’t have the time or inclination to spend an hour in a sit-down restaurant. In fact, since Tahoe City no longer has a major fast food franchise, The Burrito Window is the closest thing to fast food in Tahoe City, only it tastes a lot better. Enjoy.

The Window is a lunch only spot, open Monday-Friday, 11-2 in the winter and 11-3 in the summer.
